Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do you require face to face consultations?
A: No, in fact most of the folks I work with are not in my state, or even in USA. Telephone consultations are common, and thanks to the wonders of technology, email/Skype/and “chat phones” work well for distance. That said, I love to see people face to face if possible!
Q: If I am taking prescription medications, am I able to use your detox protocols?
A: This is a good question, as many supplements DO have drug interactions. As a pharmacist, I look carefully at EVERYTHING a client is taking to ensure there are not interactions or side effects. I also work with your doctor in the event there are considerations they need to know about.
Q: I am working with an IAOMT dentist for mercury amalgam removal, but she doesn’t know much about detox. Can I work with both of you?
A: Definitely. I work with many IAOMT dentists’ patients on testing of heavy metals and interpretation of test results, along with detox protocols, and pre-amalgam removal protocols.
Q: How do I find an IAOMT dentist near me for amalgam removal?
A: You can go to https://iaomt.org/for-patients/search-for-dentist-physician/
Q: Can detox mercury if I still have silver/mercury fillings?
A: The short answer is yes, the long answer is that you must be very careful, and should seek professional help with this. Improper detoxification/chelation can be very dangerous, and even worse with mercury amalgams in place.
Q: I had my silver fillings removed about six years ago, and still have high mercury and symptoms. Shouldn’t I be better by now?
A: Mercury dental amalgam removal is only part of the battle, especially if it is done without proper safety procedures in place. Mercury (and other metals) have a nasty habit of altering detoxification pathways of mercury and heavy metals, and levels may persist for years after removal. If proper detoxification is not done after removal, it is COMMON to still see elevated levels…even years after removal.
Q: My son has ASD, and his primary care pediatrician would like to know more about the protocols you are using for autism. Do you have contact with people’s doctors?
A: I talk to people’s doctors, dentists and other clinicians commonly. It is important that all the folks working on your healthcare are on the same page, even if we are working on different aspects of your healthcare. As a pharmacist, I do not play the role your doctor does, and in fact, I REQUIRE that you have a primary care physician, and am happy to talk to them.
Q: Do you look at challenge tests and other labs, or do I have to get the tests you recommend?
A: I ask to see any labs you may have, and begin to put together a big picture. This along with an Intake and symptoms survey/history help me decide whether you should seek other testing.
Q: You talk about “pre-detoxification” as being important before actual detoxification. Can you tell me what this is, why is it important?
A: Proper detoxification can only work if the body has open drainage systems—liver/kidney/lymph/gut, along with proper micronutrient levels and balance. In almost every case I recommend an initial protocol to make sure systems are ready before moving metals, pollutants, etc. around in the blood. If drainage is not working properly, you may be re-distributing metals/etc. into places you don’t want them to go…namely the brain, organs, etc. Pre-detoxification strategy also helps the actual detox process to be much less uncomfortable!
Q: Do you review prescription medications for interactions, duplications or side effects?
A: I have clients and physicians I work with to look at what is called “Drug Utilization Review” (DUR), and help to determine whether there are interactions, drug duplications, side effect reduction and even drug induced nutrient depletions. Working as a pharmacist, I am astonished at the number of people who are on multiple drug regimens of 10 or more medications. Any time people are on more than one medication, there is likely some sort of interaction, depletion or side effect. The determination of whether it is relevant is very subjective, and can be a BIG piece of the puzzle in helping people have positive outcomes.
Q: Many of the supplements recommended in the protocols require a practitioner to purchase. Can you help me with that?
A: Yes I can! I order directly from Quicksilver Scientific and/or from their main wholesaler here in Colorado. This ensures you get the freshest product, and that is has been cold stored and properly shipped. I regularly get discounts, and pass them along to my clients.
Q: My hair test shows I am low in mercury, but I have 5 silver amalgams and many symptoms? Am I toxic?
A: A hair test will not show the type of mercury (Hgll) that comes from dental amalgam or vaccinations. I would suggest a Quicksilver Mercury Tri-Test to see not only both major types of mercury (Hgll and MeHg—from fish), but also how well your body is detoxing mercury. As to whether you are toxic depends on many factors, and can be independent of what a test’s numbers indicate. I have seen people with high levels of mercury who have no symptoms (yet!), and also very low levels who are very sick. It is best to work with a knowledgeable practitioner to help you decide as to whether you should undergo detox, and how to safely do it.
